The Kolomela Mine is located near the town of Postmasburg in the Northern Cape Province of South Africa. It is operated by Kumba Iron Ore, a subsidiary of Anglo-American. The mine produces direct shipping iron ore and has an annual production capacity of over 10.8 million tonnes of iron ore.
The mineral resources at Kolomela are estimated to be 1.05 billion tonnes with a reserve estimate of 608 million tonnes. This mine began operating in 2011 and it consists of an open pit operation and a beneficiation plant where the iron ore is processed into a high-grade product. Ms. Mpumi Zikalala is the CEO of Kumba Iron Ore Limited.
